The Good News

You have been told that God is a loving, gracious, merciful, kind, compassionate, wonderful, and good sky fairy who runs a day care in the sky and has a bucket of suckers for everyone because we're all good people. That is a lie... God looks down and says 'I hate you, you are my enemy, and I will crush you,' and we say that is deserved, right and just, and then God says 'Because of Jesus, I will love you and forgive you.' This is a miracle.
This is the good news.

Reminds me of Jonathan Edwards' famous sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God".

well, it's not so much that he hates us as much as he hates the sin that we do (which IS a problem because God does not exist with sin, so we cannot be in the presence of God while we have sin). Paraphrasing John 3:16, God actually loved the world so much that he sent his only son to die as a sacrifice in our place so that whomever believed in Him could have eternal life with God.

For a better idea of how this works, read CS Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" at the part where Aslan dies on the stone table but comes back because he died in the place of Edward who should have been killed according to the ancient magical laws of Narnia.

Although I would agree in part, God does look down and say "I hate you and I will crush you" but he does that concerning our sin, not us. It is because our sin is attached to us that if we are unrepentant and don't trust in Jesus as the perfect blood sacrifice that we are crushed by God's wrath because of our sins.

But he's definitely no happy-go-lucky sky fairy. :)
